John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement believed that the love of God and Christ was for all people and spread these ideas throughout his lifetime. He left us with the charge to "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can,to all the people you can, as long as ever you can"--John Wesley
The United Methodist movement continues today with our church as we reach out to our own community. Here are ways to help...
Easter 2010 Holiday Food Drive!
Remember the nursery rhyme about Old Mother Hubbard and how her shelves were so bare that she couldn’t even give her dog a bone?
The Clifton Christian Church Food Bank, which we support throughout the year, continues to have bare shelves!
You may ask, “How can I help?” Crossroads United Methodist Church, located at 599 30 Road (corner of F and 30 roads), is sponsoring an Easter Holiday Food Drive to help fill those shelves. Donated items can be dropped off at the church beginning March 15. We will have a truck parked in front of the church March 26, 27 & 28 to drop off your items.
Items needed, but aren’t limited to: proteins such as peanut butter, canned ham, canned chicken and other meat products; canned fruits and vegetables; canned soup; boxed meals; potatoes; rice; flour; sugar;
Jell-O; and other non-perishable food items and paper products. Remember, please don’t bring expired food to our drive!
We need volunteers to help man the pick-up truck in the parking lot. Sign up sheets are available in Fellowship Hall, or see Gerald Queen to sign up, or give him a call at 434-7860.
In these tough times, share God’s generous Spirit with those less fortunate so no one has to go hungry at Easter! For more information, contact the church office at 242-0577. Thank you!
Calling All Golfers!
Mark you calendar for May 14 at Redlands Mesa. The United Methodist Churches of the Grand Valley are teaming up to sponsor a Best Ball Golf Tournament. The proceeds from this tournament will go to send medicines to Kenya. Stay tuned for more information.
Flower Fund
We are in need of either flowers or donations to the Flower Fund in order to have fresh floral arrangements on the altar every Sunday. Remember, you can provide flowers in memory or in honor of loved ones, groups, special celebrations, etc.
Donate for Earthquake Victims
You may donate to the victims of the recent earthquakes through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) by making your checks payable to Crossroads UMC with the correct advance number (Haiti: 418325, Chile: 3021178) on the memo line.
There is No Room at the Inn
In this case it is the Homeward Bound Homeless Shelter in Grand Junction that is the Inn. The Shelter has space for 110 persons and they have had the demand of about 140 each night. The All Church Conference attendees voted in favor of Crossroads becoming an overflow Church. We will house for sleeping, up to 16 men or 16 women for a two week period. Our dates are March 28 to April 10. VOLUNTEERS (2 each night) are needed to spend the night in the church. ALL Volunteers must complete a 2 hour training session, the first to be held on February 20, 2010. More information will follow. If you are willing to help with this Mission Ministry, please contact Rita Larson, 243-0920, or sign up beginning January 31, during coffee time in Fellowship Hall.
The Youth Are Still Collecting Ink Cartridges
The youth are still collecting ink cartridges, cell phones, laptops, iPods, digital cameras, GPS devices, PDAs, etc. for recycling. There is a bin with UMYF on the front of it by the church office for you to put these items. Thank you for helping our youth.
Purchase Gift Cards to Help Us Pay Off Our Building
Purchasing Safeway gift cards, which can be used for food, prescriptions, or gas, helps Crossroads UMC pay off its building loan, due for retirement in December 2010. Also, for those who shop at City Market and Albertsons, there are cards available that designate your purchases for building fund donation. To purchase gift cards, or to get your City Market or Albertsons cards, please see Cheryl Hiebert on Sunday mornings in Fellowship Hall , or in the office during the week from 8 am to noon and 1 to 4 pm.
